SELECT A CHARACTER
Grant Grogan
Grant Grogan is the second key agent of Perivigilum (the "Keepers of the Vigil," or
simply "Vigil") that we have encountered in the story. Saxony Canterbury describes
Vigil as the "biggest player in the magical world, bar none. Artifacts, critters,
monsters, or gods... if they can't control it, they want it dead." He also identifies
Grogan as being one of the top seven members of Vigil, along with Ray Warwick and
someone named Klotz.
How much of Saxony's assessment is correct has yet to be determined, but it is clear
that Grogan wields significant authority in Vigil. He has come to New Orleans to
get the city's wild magical element under control, he says, in prepartion for "critical
times" to come. His distaste for the city is immediately evident, as well as his
forceful, humorless personality.
By some means, he has come into possession of Hayaka's "White Ball," by which he
can control her (and thus keep a short leash on Saxony). He also seems to be familiar
with The Shackled Man, who he takes very seriously as a long-term problem for
Vigil.
In his effort to impose his will on New Orleans, Grogan orchestrated a raid on the
mansion of Bella Brouchard, an occultist of great reach and power. Grogan failed to
heed Saxony Canterbury's warnings and charged in, arrogant in his sense of superiority.
Vigil was handed a stinging defeat -- Brouchard, anticipating their arrival, escaped
from under their noses, and left a demon at the house to inflict terrible casualties
on the team. Grogan only neutralized the demon (a Rakshasa from India) by revealing
his own hidden powers, transforming into a six-winged angel and striking down the
creature in one blow.
