SELECT A CHARACTER
Gail Curmen Gail is a year younger than Sharon. She attends Pepperdine University in California, and has a scholarship in the swimming program. While Sharon excels in intellectual matters, Gail excels to an even greater degree in physical pursuits. She is a superbly gifted athlete, and has managed to rise to the top of any sport she's tried. This has caused some frustration for her past coaches, who have been displeased with Gail's tendency to switch from one sport to another. She has switched her focus from softball to gymnastics, then to track, and now finally to swimming. In all of these endeavors, her coaches believed that she could perform at Olympic-level ability, yet to their disappointment she chose to move on to new challenges rather than shoot for the big time in any one sport. Gail has no real explanation for this athletic wanderlust herself, but nevertheless has been compelled by it throughout her young life. At the time of Sharon's miraculous cure, Gail was focused on swimming and committed to making a run at Olympic gold. Still, her real passion has always been the martial arts. Only her mother's severe disapproval of this "barbaric obsession" has kept her from devoting herself fully to martial arts or kendo (Japanese fencing). Gail also differs from her elder sister in her religious beliefs. She is a devoted Christian, deeply committed to a spiritual life. This has led to a long-standing argument with Sharon about the validity of religion in general, forcing both of them to challenge and defend their own beliefs. Though Gail is not as technically intelligent as Sharon is, she is still extremely sharp and gives no quarter in their running debates. After a fateful and dangerous evening on Independence Day, Gail and Sharon's grandmother revealed that their true grandfather was a man that she believed to be the devil. While Gail does not agree with her grandmother's conclusion about the man's identity, she is convinced that he holds the answers to the apparently supernatural events that have happened to Sharon. She has accepted that she is something other than human -- though the expression of this is less dramatic than it is in her sister, she believes her own superhuman athletic gifts are a result of her grandfather's legacy.
Gail adores her sister with all her heart -- they are so close that people often
assume they are fraternal twins. She is just as passionate about her beliefs as
Sharon, but has learned better control of her own intensity, and is less likely
to run off at the mouth like her older sister often does.
